Do I need to have a sound module to use pads with AD?

Hi,

I'm not a drummer, but I am looking to set up a jam studio in my new house. I have AD and want to buy a moderately priced e-drum pad set. The bundled sets come with a "sound module" that to me looks to have similar function to AD. So if I just buy pads and put a laptop to the side of the drum with AD installed what interface box do I need to feed the triggers to the computer?

I'm sure this has been answered a 1000 times... I did a quick search but could find no direct answer. I assume I can buy a box with multiple midi inputs for the pads and triggers and a USB out to the laptop that is less than a full blown sound module. If so, can someone recommend a good choice for such a midi I/O box? Thanks in advance

The drum module translates the trigger signals to midi notes, so you will need one in order to use the pads with Addictive Drums. The model of the pads and drum module determine if you can use features such as cymbal chokes, positional sensing, cc hihats etc. with Addictive Drums.

Thanks for the info! The heads up on features is a great help! I did a search and found Alesis trigger I/O but it looks to me that it doesn't provide cymbal chokes... which means a no-go for me...

Am I correct on this? If so, does anyone here have a rec on what other midi to usb trigger box I should look at that does provide chokes, etc.

You can do cymbal chokes with the Alesis i/o. The e-cymbal itself must have choke ability. I have two of my cymbals set up to choke with my Alesis I/O.
