Aftertouch (choking)

Postby drdrum » Fri Mar 25, 2011 10:39 pm

How do I get my Yamaha DTXtreme2s to tell AD to choke the cymbal.
Works good with the module, doesnt work with VST's. I have the same problem with BFD2.

Some modules only have "internal chokes", which means that they don't send out any aftertouch messages or midi notes when you choke the cymbals. You can use the Midi Monitor in the Map Window in Addictive Drums to view any incoming midi messages.

It's also possible that there is a midi filter in your hosts that removes any incoming aftertouch messages. I'm pretty sure that there have been cases like that with Reaper and Pro Tools.

It turns out the DTXtreme2s is not capeable of sending atfertouch thru midi.
So Im out of luck.
Ill have to use a pad to trigger a midinote to get the cymbal to choke. :o

Thanks for this.

I was wondering that myself. Though I can occasionally get the choke to sound if I grab the cymbal and THEN tap the pad. It's not consistent, though.

Choking

If you are using a 3 zone crash cymbal, you can map the 'choke' midi note to the bow of the cymbal. It's a bit artificial, but you end up striking the edge for the crash, then tapping the top of the cymbal with the stick to choke.
