We've had many questions about the sound on the song in the Promo Video for the INDIE ADpak.
The song is called "Gone, Gone, Gone" and is performed by the band "Björk & Toffe".
The song in the video is a remix of the original song with the drums from the INDIE ADpak.
This is pretty much how it was done:
I received a package from the band with stems of the song with a few of the instruments separated.
I loaded all the tracks into a new Pro Tools session on my laptop.
I started by programming a new drum track for the song. The song is not recorded with a click-track so I had to rely on the original drum track as a guide.
I made the beat a bit different than the original. The original beat has kick on 1 & 3 but on my track I let the snare be alone on 3.
I had the Spike Stent preset #4 as a starting point since it's one of my favorite presets and I found it to be the preset that had the right type of sound for the song.
I lowered the pitch on the snare a bit and adjusted the tone on the toms to fit the key of the song better.
I did a few more adjustments with EQ and comp in AD just to make it fit the song better.
I ran all the channels in AD out to separate channels in Pro Tools to make it easier to adjust the levels together with the other tracks and not have to open AD every time I needed to adjust a level of something in the kit.
That lead to using plug-ins to make adjustments to the sound of kit in the mix.
Those adjustments can also be done in AD but workflow wise since I was working on a mix in Pro Tools it was easier to have plug-ins on the tracks and basically the sound was already there.
I worked on getting all the tracks sounding good by them selves, I re-amped the bass with the Softube Vintage Amp Room as a parallel track to the lined track I got, made a Bass AUX where I did some Compression with a 1176 comp and adjusted with some EQ.
The guitars got a bit of a makeover as well with an 1176 on each channel and some EQ adjustments. The vocal sound was pretty much there so I only did some small adjustments to them to fit the new sound of the track.
With the Drums I used:
1 SSL E-Channel each on: Kick, Snare and Toms
1 PuigTec EQP1A each On: OH, Room and Bus.
1 V-comp and 1 L1 on the AUX.
1 L3 on the Master.
If you don't have the Waves plug-ins you can still get pretty much the same sound with other plug-ins or inside AD.
I have made a package where I have included all the presets:
*ADpreset
*Plug-in Presets
*Documents where I explain the presets and all settings if you don't have the Waves plug-ins.
*Midi track
