Ian Paice Drum Sound

Postby ChubbyChubb » Tue Feb 27, 2007 7:22 pm

Is there anyone who can help me get Ian Paice (deep purple) drum sound...

I want it to sound acoustic but not to much reverb and not so in front in the mix... anyone who can help me get this...

Listen to Deep Purples - Machine Head "THE best album ever"
- Bananas

He seems to have almost the same acoustic feel to it on every album...

Please help me, and which Eq settings do you use to on the whole drumset
to get the other instruments to fit more in the mix....

Post me anything

Ian Paice drum sound varies quite alot over his career.
Here is a link to an mp3 "burn". Is this drumsound similar to what you were looking for?

http://www.drummerworld.com/Sound/ianpaiceburn.mp3

if it is I could probably think of some ways to get close to it.
Seems pretty "natural". and actually quite dry.
Cymbals are distant, and seem to have a bit of reverb on them.
Ride cymbal is panned to the middle.
Toms panned out to the sides with a natural sound to them....

let me know if the mp3 is close to what you were looking for...
cheers!

Yes I like that sound... I like especially the dry tom sound...

So if you find a similar sound in addictive, please post a setup file...

in this we save a lot of time...Iḿ sure there are others who would enjoy it to...

Thanks again for your support and that you take your time to us amateurs

The sound

Postby ChubbyChubb » Sun Mar 11, 2007 11:48 am

When I try to do this sound in addictive I tend to get a to snappy sound on the snare and toms... they are the hardest to get to sound right....

And they sounds so good in the mix... ( the deep purple mix I mean)

And another problem I get is to get the drums in the place they have, I end up with to get the drums either to much in front or to roomy in the back...

I guess that is a eq issue.... or am I wrong?

If you help me with this I will record a song with addictive and send it to you wich others can listen to and know how good this program is in the mix...

We are a three man band with influences from the 70's....

Hopes this helps a little to understand my needs....

:)

hehe :). apparently not this time...

To be honest with you, I havent had time to do this.
The frankfurt show is next week, and we are very busy preparing.

I really *want* to help you with this, its just that time isnt enough right now. Hope you understand.

Have you managed to come up with something by yourself? It seemed you had some ideas?

It was a joke!!

I understand you people are busy releasing your new product,... I am happy that you even care to help me...

I feel that I'm having trouble to get the drums to sound not to big and not to dry... If you understand.. I look for a acoustic sound so the drummer can play dynamic with my Yamaha DTxplorer drums... Not a rock production where every single hit sounds the same..

I want to have a sound that the drummer can get his drumming style.. not a rock production where you cant distinguish the drummer (dont know if the spelling was right there)

When ever you guys have time... Save me from my Frustration

It's pretty hectic now before the Frankfurt MusikMesse, but when we get back (beginning of April) we'll have a lot more time to look into this!
