A couple of questions

Anything you want to know about Addictive Drums or Addictive Keys to help decide if the product is right for you?

A couple of questions

Postby lobserve » Sun Nov 08, 2009 11:10 pm

I downloaded the demo and I really like it. Just a a couple of questions.

1. I didn't see Sony Acid listed as a host for AD but it seems to work ok so far. Has it been tested with Acid? Are there any issues?

2. Approximately how many of the MIDI files in the full version are for rock and metal?

3. Has AD been tested with an Axiom 25 keyboard? I have not hooked mine up yet?

4. Will I be able to use other MIDI patterns without losing the mapping? Is there a converter?

5. Can I record from the Kit window by clicking on the drums? How? Can the drums be mapped to keys on the computer keyboard?

Sorry for all the questions.

Hi,

1. Addictive Drums has not been tested with Sony Acid and we can't guarantee that it will work, but if the demo version is running fine then the full version should work also.

2. See a complete list of midi files in the bottom of this post.

3. As long as you manage to hook up your midi keyboard to Sony Acid (or whichever host you're running), the model of the midi keyboard shouldn't matter.

4. Check out the PowerMap Engine section of the Addictive Drums 1.5 manual: http://www.xlnaudio.com/downloads/manua ... nglish.pdf

5. No, clicking the drums are for preview purposes only. I suggest that you use your midi keyboard for this instead.

AD MIDI library

Note: A bundle contains several variations of a groove, like 4th, 8th hi-hats, ride, with or without ghost notes etc.

Songs are longer midi files with different sections like Chorus, Verse, Bridge etc. You can use the song as it is or just use a single section.

To use your computer keyboard, Sony Acid needs to have a musical typing feature within it, as does Garageband and Mainstage, and CapsLock Keys in Logic Pro. Or try google searching "midi keys for pc" or "midi keys for mac" and find a download- it is a simple program that links to your midiport in your computer and then you just have to select a virtual instrument track in you DAW and press record. It gives you about 3 octaves to play with simultaneously fro myour computer keyboard. Of course the problem with trying to play drums from a computer keyboard is that there is no velocity sensitivity.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the info. Only reason I ask about using computer keyboard for midi is that it's easier for me to tap out something crude for a rhythm than to try and go straight to coding it.

I think that the easiest thing to do is to take a similar midi beat out of AD and use the beat transformer to get it to where I need it in terms of velocity, then go andd move notes around in the piano roll. I can do fairly quick work that way.
