Garageband and AD, HELP! [solved]

Postby calisun » Fri Jan 15, 2010 4:49 am

I just bought version 1.0. when I open Garageband I get a message saying:

"Garageband unexpectedly quit while trying to use the Audio Unit "Addictive Drums" by "XLN Audio". This plug in may require and update".

Garageband then opens up, but AD does not show up in the Audio Units area. I uninstalled and reinstalled AD with the same result. I just updated to version 1.5 and I get the same problem. I have an intel mac book running OSX 10.5.8 and Garageband version 4.1.2.

I downloaded VSTlord and AD opened in it.

What now? Do I need to reload GB? Do I need to upgrade GB? Or has it been proven not to work with my set up? Please help. Thanks

and another thing...

The main drives shows that 1.9 Gigs have been used, but I can't find the AD files anywhere! Where does the installer save them to? I found the Addictive drums VST in the VST folder and the Component in the component folder, but other than that I can't find anything.

Could you tell me more about your computer? G4, G5 or Intel processor?

I fixed it!

Here is the solution, I found it after searching though archive at Apple:

Remove file: com.apple.audiounits.cache
In folder: ~/Library/Caches/

The "~" refers to your home folder name. If you remove this cache file, then launch Garage Band, it will rescan all audio units and test them for compatability and show all the accepted ones.

Hope this helps someone else in the same situation! Thanks for the help... or not.

Thank you very much for that information! That might come in handy in other cases.

Hi calisun Just to let you know your solution worked for my problem too.

Had migrated everything from my iMac to my MacBook Pro, but could not open Addictive in Garageband on the MacBook despite uninstalling reinstalling a few times...

Just about accepting I had to do a complete reinstall from start of everything on on the MacBook, but found your post, gave the solution a spin and fantastic everything seems to be working fine with Addictive in Garageband - now all upgraded to 1.5 registered on the MacBook and my Rock Adpack as well. Excellent - hours saved and now rockin and mobile.

Many thanks for this. I thought more people would have been having similar problems, seemingly having resulted from the Migration Assistant approach - pleased I kept hunting on this forum and hope my quick summary helps others.
