I recently made the switch from EZ and DFHS C+V and I am glad I did. The
AD experience on the whole is very well implemented: navigating between the
various functions is easy and everything is laid out in a way which makes
this a very intuitive program to use. There is just enough but not too
much control and everything seems to work just how I'd expect it to, on the
whole; I've noticed the progress bar sometimes stops scrolling on the
'Beats' page - a small niggle. Speaking of the beats, these are excellent
and my hat goes off to Jakob for coming up with consistently dynamic
grooves, well done! The other aspect of AD that enticed me to switch over
is the sound: the drums have an immediacy or punch that really comes
through in the mix; again, it's all about dynamics.
AD is already a wonderful program but I would like to add a suggestion or
two that would really make it so much better, at least for me - and
thousands others just like me.
1) As most of us AD users are probably finger-drummers it would be very
helpful to have articulations like flams, rolls, and other rudiments
available as they are very difficult to play or program convincingly on a
keyboard or pad.
2) Cymbals. We need more cymbals. Specifically crisp and dry hi hats -
Istanbul Mehmet Rock comes to mind; and some articulate yet lush rides -
Zildjian K Constantinople is a favorite.
3) Custom kit slots. I'd rather have 2 rides than 3 crashes.
4) Percussion. I would love to hear what AD would come up with here.
5) OK - this is my biggest wish on the list...... Beats and Presets that
are inspired by the classic performances in various genres. For instance,
'Son of a Preacher Man' by Dusty Springfield - certainly one of the
all-time greatest in terms of groove and production - that pocket is so
deep.... and that snare and hi hat - I need those sounds! We all have our
favorite grooves that inspire us and I would imagine that there is probably
a good consensus as to what they are for any given genre. 'Papa Don't Take
No Mess' by James Brown, who can resist that performance/production? Let
us have more of AD's wonderful beats and presets but with an ear towards
those classic performances and productions that inspire us to create our
own versions. Might I suggest a 'classic track' wish list if one already
doesn't exist?
Thanks,
Chris |
