Key maps

Postby MarahM » Sat Oct 22, 2011 3:03 am

Hi.

I'm trying to set up key maps but I'm unable to get them to work.

When I drag a stroketype to the a key, it appears to work, I click OK, but the original kitpeice is still in the same slot.

Even when I choose the -Empty- option, which removes all assignments, and then click OK, when I play my keyboard, all the same kitpieces are assigned to the same slots. Even when I save the Empty map as Startup, remove the AD instance, and reinsert a new instance, the original map is still what plays.

I'm using Reaper under Windows 7.

What am I missing here?

Thank you.

If there is an existing kitpiece in the slot, did you left-click and drag the old piece off first? Then save the map & kit separately. I have a few custom maps for using multiple instances of Addictive for additional cymbals & toms.

Hey thanks for the reply.

I completely emptied all the slots, then saved the map, which it seems should cause there to be no drums assigned anywhere. But even after reloading this empty map, the assignments are still there.

That sounds very odd. What happens if you select the GM Map Preset (for instance) in the lower right corner of the BEATS page? Does the mapping change then?

Hi Tore , thanks for the reply. Yes, it is very odd.

When I changed it to GM, it appeared to work as expected. This was a day or two ago.

When I just went back to it, and tried to remap a drum, the odd behavior was back.

When I choose the Empty map, all the keys go blank, as expected, but I am still able to play them from the keyboard and from MIDI data in my DAW track. Even after I click OK, they still play.

Am I understanding correctly that the only the I should have to do to change a map is load (or create) a new one, click OK, and that should be immediately reflected in how AD responds to incoming MIDI, *regardless* of the kit and preset that is selected?

Thanks!

Fact is, it's behaving very strangely. I will try to explain...

I have a MIDI pattern with two kicks (#36) per measure.

With the map I've been using, I hear all of the kicks as expected, but in the Map editor the key for 36 is only flashing once per measure EVEN though the kick in the Stroke Type List flashes for each event.

THEN, when I change the map to -Empty-, all the other drums stop (as expected), while the kick continues to play, but only the event that it was NOT playing with the regular map... even though all the keys in the Map Editor keyboard are blank.

It's very weird.

Not really sure what to make of this.

Any ideas?

Also, since I'm here and have your attention....

It would be really useful if AD gave you the option of to save Kit Presets and Map Presets as a combined pair.

Gonna try this again...

I've just reinstalled AD. Same problem:

I am totally unable to get AD to respond to any changes in mapping, including loading the Empty map: when I load the empty map and click OK, AD still responds as though the original default map is present.

Same for when loading the GM map: the original key map plays.

What I'd like to do specifically (for starters) is map a second kick drum to MIDI note 37.

Thanks.

Here is a screen cap of the drum map. Note #37.

When I CLICK #37 with the mouse, it plays a kick drum. But when I play 37 on my keyboard, it plays thge original snare.

Even after click OK and exit the editor, #37 still plays the snare. But when I go back into the editor, and click 37 with the mouse, it plays the kick.

What am I doing something wrong here? }:|

Thank you!

In screen cap, you can see that even with the Empty map loaded, AD still responds as though the default map is selected.

Am I misunderstanding how this is supposed to work? Love AD but this is really baffling me.

I'm using Reaper, but that shouldn't be a factor here, right?

Thanks.

Something is definitely wrong here... AD definitely shouldn't do things like that.

Did you perhaps mess up the order of updates when installing AD? You need to install 1.0, then 1.1, then 1.5. At least I think!

Hey ED. Thanks for confirming that I'm not losing my mind. At least on this one.

I can't be certain, but I'm near certain that when I originally installed AD (on this w7/32 install) I used the addictive-drums-v1-5-2.zip file. I know that I had that file available at the time, and can't imagine I'd have started with the v1 disk.

So that should eliminate the possibility you suggest.

Just before, I reinstalled AD from another version of addictive-drums-v1-5-2.zip that I just downloaded. That didn't solve the problem. BUT....

I didn't fully uninstall AD... all I did was rename its installation folders so as to hide it from the reinstall process. But that leaves that leaves registry settings, I know. :naugthy;

Now that I know it's not me being dense and that it really is behaving funny, I'll do a full uninstall then try again.

I've now fully uninstalled AD at least twice and reinstalled at least that many times... removing all traces of xln each time.

Key maps are not working.

How is this possible?

Is there some setting somewhere that I'm overlooking?

I'd be happy if it turned out to be user error. I just really want to do some remaps.

what's funny is that when I change velocity curves they go into effect immediately... they can be saved... reloaded... etc... as expected....

but remaps are being totally ignored.
