Hi Hat Drops Out Completely While Playing..?!?

Postby ssccrab » Sun Mar 11, 2012 10:23 pm

I have AD 1.5.2 running through Logic 9 on Mac. While playing the kit, the hi hat seems to be limited by the kick and snare, or any other combination of drums, meaning that while playing the kit, the hi hat drops out completely until I stop playing kick and/or snare. It'll occasionally pop through the sound of the kick and snare. If I play just the hi hat by itself, it sounds normal, full and loud. Add those other pieces in though and it's gone. It just doesn't sound right at all. I've tried adjusting compressors, removing any active limiters in Logic, and just don't know where else to look.

Is there a limiter within AD that I'm able to turn off so that it doesn't limit any of the kit pieces, resulting in any of them dropping out? Thanks!

There is a saturating limiter on the Master channel in Addictive Drums that you could try turning off. Click the Master button in the bottom right of the Addictive Drums interface to get to the EDIT page of the Master channel. Then turn off the "Sat" effect by clicking on the small square to the left of "Sat". I also suggest that you try loading one of the presets from the Clean category (click on the Startup text to bring up the preset menu). Those presets have no effects on them at all. This will help you make sure that the problems you are experiencing are related to the effects.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried turning off the limiter as well as other effects, and I still have this problem. I'm using the Alesis Trigger iO, so I wonder if maybe there's a setting there that causes it to do this?

Does it sound like that when you record midi notes and then listen to it afterwards? Can you see if all the hi-hat notes you played were recorded properly? It would be great if you could make a short mp3 so we can hear what it sounds like. If you could export the midi as well, that would be great. You can upload to a site such as speedyshare.com and then post the link here.

I found the problem! It was a setting on my Trigger iO that was causing the problem. The hi-hat needed to be set differently, and now everything plays perfectly. Thank you for the helpful responses =)

I'm glad to hear that it's working now. If you're able to share some short info on the setting you changed, it may help others in the future. Cheers!
