PRESALE

Can I install my XLN products on more than one computer?
Yes, according to the license agreement you're allowed to have two active computers for one license.

Can I load my own samples in Addictive Drums?
No, not in the current version of AD2.

Can I still run my AD1 projects after upgrading to AD2?
After upgrading, AD2 lives alongside your old AD1 installation. This means your music projects using AD1 will open and work exactly like before. You can start using AD2 when you're ready and enjoy all the new features. All of your old ADpaks will be available as new AD2 ADpaks and will have new and exciting presets for you to explore.

REQUIREMENTS GUIDE

Here we will outline what you need to get your XLN Audio products working on your computer.

YOUR COMPUTER

2 GB RAM required, 4 GB or more recommended. Mac: Intel CPU required.

OPERATING SYSTEM

We officially support the following operating systems:

PC:
Windows 7, 8, 10 (32 & 64 bit)

Mac:
OS X 10.7 - 10.11 (32 & 64 bit)

INTERNET CONNECTION

An internet connection on your music computer is required to install and authorize the products. After installation, an internet connection is not required to use the products. • Cubase 6, 7, 8
  • Pro Tools 10, 11, 12
  • Live 8, 9
  • Reaper 4,5
  • Logic Pro 9, 10
  • Sonar X2, X3 and Artist/Pro/platinum

NOTE: Although we don't officially support other hosts, our products usually work just fine. You can download demo versions of Addictive Drums 2 and Addictive Keys to make sure everything works as expected.

AUTHORIZATION & ACCOUNT

How do I authorize?
The Online Installer will handle all downloads, installations and authorizations for you.

I want to sell my XLN Audio products. Are license transfers allowed?
Yes. Here's how you do it: Use the Online Installer to uninstall the products you want to sell. Tell the buyer to create an account with us and give us his/her e-mail address. After that we will transfer the licenses to the new owner's account.

I no longer have access to the e-mail address used in my account
If you still have the password to your account, you can log-in and change the e-mail address yourself. If not, please contact us through the form on the Support page and we will help you.

COMPUTER RESOURCES

How much RAM / memory does a kit or instrument use?
An AD kit uses about 400-700 MB of RAM, and an AK instrument around 1-1.5 GB. It is recommended to get yourself at least 4 GB of RAM, and use a 64 bit OS - all audio computers like lots of RAM, and besides Addictive Drums / Keys you have the OS, host application and other plug-ins usually wanting a few hundred megabytes as well. When a computer runs low on memory, it can start offloading stuff to disk, which slows everything down massively and can cause audible glitches.

WEBSHOP

Are payments in the webshop secure?
To comply with the high security requirements set up by VISA and Mastercard we use a hosted payment service. This means that the actual payment and credit card data is not handled by our server but directly by DIBS (http://www.dibs.se), our payment service provider. When you enter your credit card number the data is sent through a secure connection directly to DIBS. If the purchase was successful we get a message back from them telling us to create the necessary licenses, receipts and e-mails. The hosted payment service we use from DIBS is fully PCI DSS compliant (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard). The XLN Audio webshop also supports 3-D Secure. 3-D Secure is a cooperation initiated by the major banks and credit card companies of the world to increase the security of internet shopping. If you have applied for your credit card to be part of 3-D Secure you will have received a code. This code will be used when buying with your card. If you have not applied for 3-D Secure you can still purchase products in our webshop.

Which payment options are available?
Our webshop currently supports VISA, Mastercard and Paypal. If you live in the European Union you can also pay through bank transfer. Send an e-mail through the support form and choose webshop as category. Tell us which products you would like to buy and we'll mail you back with purchase instructions. Contact us through the support form and choose webshop as category. Note that there is an additional fee for this.

Installing AD or AK on an external drive

External disks - why?
It is not uncommon to want to install sample libraries on an external disk. Benefits include being able to reinstall the OS without having to reinstall huge libraries, and also making sure the system's disk access doesn't interfere with sample loading (especially important for sample players that stream the audio from disk in real time.) Addictive Drums and Addictive Keys are comparably small (AD core library about 1.5 GB, adpaks roughtly 6-700 MB each, AK instruments around 1-1.5 GB each). Additionally, the samples are not streamed from disk - so you may very well keep your xln products on the system drive, which is the default.
If you still want to use an external drive - read on!

How to install Addictive Drums or Addictive Keys on an external drive
1. Start the XLN Online Installer. If the "XLN Online Installer" item at the top of the list says "Up to date", continue to step 2. If not, click "Update" on that list item and let it restart itself. (No need to update the rest of the items at this point).
2. Click the 'Advanced' button. There are tabs for AD and AK (as well as a VST paths tab if you are running Windows). Select your desired path/location, then click Apply. If you have a big installation, it may take a while to move everything. When it is finished, click "Close".
3. Back on the main screen, if the big yellow button says "Everything is up to date", you are done.

If not - click the Big yellow Button to update everything to the latest versions and install any new items.

Internet on audio computers

The internet has changed almost every aspect of our lives, and definitely the world of music - how it is consumed, delivered and also how it is created. At this point, most of us can't even fathom a world without it.

At XLN Audio we want to take advantage of the possibilities it offers, and try to come up with great functionality that really adds benefits to our product lines.

Here are some new web-connected technologies we introduced in 2012:

- Installation: our Online Installer system connects to your account and downloads and installs all your XLN products in one go. No more manufacturing or shipping of DVDs. Faster, smarter, greener.

- MyCloud: with Addictive Drums 2 and Addictive Keys we include cloud storage of all your presets and memos. One benefit is backup (get a new computer, connect, and all your user stuff is re-created), another is that it enables you to access your user files across all your computers (record a memo at home, continue working on it in the studio).

Why would being online be bad?
There are lots of opinions about having an internet connection on your music computer, many "old truths" circulating that are not necessarily true any more (if they ever were). We want to take this opportunity to give you our thoughts. When talking to customers about this subject, these two reasons why they stay offline regularly show up:

1. Network activity causes glitches in audio
There is at least some truth to this. It can happen, under some circumstances, depending on your particular hardware and operating system. It does not happen for most users. If you're one of the unlucky few, you can always pull the plug when internet is not needed for updates etc. And to clarify, our installation system only requires a connection when actually updating, not after installation is complete. (Note that the MyCloud services will not work offline)

2. Having an internet connection exposes you to viruses
This one probably causes the most heated debate! Many claim the risks are hugely exaggerated if you just use common sense (don't download strange files from unknown places, don't go to shady web sites), while the fine makers of Anti-Virus software claim you are at risk by just looking at your computer. As usual, the truth is probably somewhere in between. First, viruses are more prevalent on Windows computers, but that may slowly be changing as Apple gains more market share. In any case, there are antivirus solutions out there who should keep you safe, many of them free (like http://free.avg.com/ww-en/free-antivirus-download or Microsoft's own "Security Essentials"). Btw, many people say to stay away from Norton's products - if you're having issues with that, try something else. Finally, a router with a firewall is always good, as is password protected Wifi.

XLN Audio going online, and not looking back!
A survey we performed shows that about 95% of our users are permanently online or have the possibility to be so temporarily. The 'online' trend is definitely going in one direction only.
In the survey, the top reasons for being online was:
1. Use services like dropbox to share and backup files
2. Email mp3s
3. Keep your software updated with minimal fuss
4. Inpiration: Look up songs, art, videos

As a company, it becomes increasingly difficult for us to support two very different paths of development; online and offline. decided ocus on the online path, because we truly belive it is the way of the future and because it provides great benefits for a vast majority of our users.
